**Walking** is the most common movement action in Deadlock. Walking allows your character to navigate around midtown.

When you start walking, you will begin to start accelerating towards a peak speed which is dependent on character, which can be increased with items ((

This acceleration and deceleration towards your top speed can be seen in other Source games, like //Team Fortress 2// and the //Counter Strike// series.

You can also walk while crouching. When crouch walking, you will move at a speed of ''4.75'' m/s.

All characters have the ability to **Sprint**. Sprinting in Deadlock is a passive action — no further action is required to sprint. When sprinting, you instantly accelerate up to +''2.5'' m/s of your base sprint speed((https://forums.playdeadlock.com/threads/12-16-2025-update.93983/#post-177936, //"Sprint now starts accelerating for sprint speeds over +2.5 rather than only after +3"//)), then gain ''0.6'' m/s every second((

)) above that threshold. Sprinting characters can be identified by the grey speed lines coming off them. You cannot sprint while zooming in using alt-fire ((
by default, right click

Every character has a base of ''1.6'' m/s sprint speed except for the following characters:

  * <bebop_sm> [[hero:Bebop]], with a base of ''4.0'' m/s;
  * <kelvin_sm> [[hero:Kelvin]], with a base of ''1.5'' m/s;
  * <lady-geist_sm> [[hero:Lady Geist]], with a base of ''3.0'' m/s;
  * <lash_sm> [[hero:Lash]], with a base of ''2.5'' m/s;
  * <paige_sm> [[hero:Paige]], with a base of ''4.0'' m/s;
  * <victor_sm> [[hero:Victor]], with a base of ''1.5'' m/s.

When characters are sprinting:

  * If they have been damaged by an enemy hero, sprint will be disabled for ''3'' seconds, which can be significantly slower. 
  * If they have been damaged by a non-hero, sprint will be disabled for ''3'' seconds((

  * If they are firing, they will move significantly slower (around ~70% of their base walk speed) until the character stops firing. 
    * With the <weapon> <color #9E6203><wrap retailsemibold>Weapon</wrap></color> item <item_fleetfoot> <wrap retailsemibold>Fleetfoot</wrap>, they will move at their base walk speed if they are firing.
    * <ivy_sm> [[hero:Ivy]]'s second ability, <wrap retailsemibold>Watcher's Covenant</wrap>, provides <item_fleetfoot> <wrap retailsemibold>Fleetfoot</wrap>'s passive to both her and the tethered teammate.

==== Gaining Sprint Speed from Runes ====

Sprint speed can be obtained by picking up the <rune_movement> Movement Rune above the bridges between the inner and outer lanes. The <rune_movement> Movement rune grants a temporary base +''3'' m/s sprint speed buff for 160 seconds, that scales with time.
